About Papi's

All images were originally published in L’Illustration magazine between 1922 and 1941 and have been carefully reproduced from the original magazine pages, scanned at high resolution and given a light digital restoration.

Only subtle adjustments have been made to enhance clarity and contrast, while deliberately preserving the authentic patina of the source material — including natural paper grain, gentle ageing, and the period-accurate archival artefacts that give the artworks their distinctive vintage character and appearance.

Presented in monochrome or full colour, each print accentuates the elegant forms, sculptural contrast and mechanical precision that defined early European automotive and luxury brand advertising design. The images provide a wonderful glimpse of life between the wars, a period full of hope and alive with aspirations for new products and exotic foreign travel. New styles of illustration and art were encouraged and celebrated.
